Carol Cassidy is our Artist of the Month

Passion and art goes hand in hand and when we look at Carol Cassidy's work - it is easy to get lost in transit. A globetrotter, Carol has exhibited in the finest museums such as the Guggenheim in New York but calls Laos her home. A weaver's paradise, Laos became her base in 1989 and singlehandly this dynamic artist changed the face of the textile industry in Vientiane at a time when it was near extinction.

In 1990 she founded Lao Textiles and through hard work and sheer determination, Lao Textiles was awarded the 2001 UNESCO Product Excellence Award.

Until today she continues to advise the UN on development programs, lectures on and teaches weaving, and generously shares her model of weaving success with weavers, artisans and audiences throughout the world.

Now, she is sharing with Malaysia - displaying new work from her Autumn Collection at the Shalini Ganendra Fine Art Private Gallery. Call 03 7958 2175 to view.

Charles and Keith Opens at Fahrenheit 88

A brand spanking new edifice rocked up Bukit Bintang and not to our surprise...a popular shoe brand followed suit - opening its doors to fashionistas craving for footwear.

During the launch, Breast Cancer survivors romanced the runway floor with an edge as they strutted the bags and shoes from the pink limited edition collection with PRIDE.

As part of a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) project for Charles and  Keith, West Malaysia...proceeds from the sale of the pink collection will be donated to the foundation. Never has it been easier for a fashion forward victim to give back with a comeback. The limited edition pink collection is in support of the PRIDE foundation for breast cancer awareness. The pink collection is already available in stores and is set to be a hit among its followers.  Now, if that is not enough reason to shop, I dont know what is....

Closet Crashers: Belinda Chee

CLOSET CRASHERS

Belinda Chee...Actress, Model and TV Host welcomes Style Unofficial into her home and wowed us with her closet. Welcome to Closet Crashers!

1. Describe your style?

Very chic and modern.

2) How long does it take for you to get ready?

It really depends, sometimes; when the occasion is special I always take a longer time to get ready. I usually get everything prepared a day before the occasion

3. Who inspires you?

I adore Eva longoria

4) Most expensive buy that is in your closet…

     LV bag/clutch

5) Oldest items that you have in your closet...

Skater brand Nixon watch. I had it during my University days and it can still be used until today. It has been with me for almost 7-8 years…

6) Favorite piece? Do you wear it often?

My favourite outfit would be my Levis Bold Curve jeans. I wear it very often. I got it from Singapore. It is especially made for a curvy body like mine.

7) Is there an items that you bought and you havent worn yet?

This dress I got from Bali. Handmade and I still have the tag on. I’m not sure if I ever going to wear it…

8) Most memorable outfit and why?

That would be my Karen Millen Story. I was invited to Anugerah Skrin for an award presentation. I was having a tough time thinking of what to wear…so I did a little shopping, hoping I might find something nice that is more “me”. I came across this dress and it was my size. The dress fitted me perfectly. I was so happy - I thought I could give a call to the DNP clothing management, with hopes that they wouldn’t mind sponsoring the dress. But then it was not my lucky day, as they told me that they only have one piece left and that they couldn’t afford to sponsor me the dress. I told my husband about the dress (who was my BF at that time) and he told me that I still have time to look for another dress.
One fine night, my husband and I had our usual dinner outing together before heading home. We made a pit stop at his home – his excuse was that he had left something behind for a friend and that he needed to grab it. As we both reached the house, he asked me to help him get something from his wardrobe. So I did…and to my surprise…it was the dress I wanted from Karen Millen. He bought me the dress and you know…the funny part was…I never got round to mentioning how the dress looked like. He figured it out by himself! I wore the same dress during my wedding dinner reception. I just thought this dress is so meaningful to me.

9) Describe your ultimate dream closet?

I am very happy with my current wardrobe. So far this is my ultimate dream closet.

10) Are you a trendsetter or follower?

It depends, I can be both. Most importantly, I like to wear something that is comfortable and that suits me.

11) Do you mind wearing your 3 most favorite outfits and posse to the camera? Match them with your any best/favorite shoes, bags or accessories?
